• Written by: John Mandel • Directed by:Michael Robison • Aired: March 10th,2000 In this episode, we?re introduced to Jewel Staite?s character, Daisy, whom she portrays quite well. In the opening scene we see Mrs. Lipenowski driving to Horizon while Daisy sits in the back seat of the car. Upon arriving at Horizon, Daisy decides to make some remarks on her mom?s apparent drinking problem. As she gets out of the car, it is quite noticeable that Daisy was into the Goth look. She had a lot of dark makeup on and seemed to be a smart mouth as well. Another new character is introduced Isaac Wilton, but will only be appearing in this episode only. Hannah does the drug check and rules run through with Isaac as he listens quietly. While doing the drug check however, Hannah failed to catch the secret stash of drugs that Isaac had hidden within the toothpaste tube. Next we see Daisy changing out of her Goth outfit and washing away all the makeup she had on before. As she steps out of the bathroom, Hannah questioned her if her name was Daisy Lipenowski, her response? ?I prefer to be called ?Daisy Graves? thank you.? Jumping to the next scene, we find Shelby seducing a delivery guy for a carton of cigarettes. Daisy on the other hand is having a run through with questions from Hannah. She basically tells Hannah what she feels about her situation and why her parents decided to send her to Horizon. Apparently, when Daisy?s alcoholic father tried to physically abuse her, she struck back by hitting him with a seven iron. While Scott does his share of chores chopping wood, Shelby decided to pay him a little visit, also in tempting him to try a cigarette. Scott turned down the offer, saying that he quit. Shelby gives a smart mouth remark about Scott?s relationship with Juliette, obviously jealous at the fact that Scott was going out with the prom queen. Scott responded by saying, ?Well, at least she isn?t a skank.? Harsh words indeed, coming from Scott especially, but Shelby wasn?t going to let him get away with what he said so, she left with a remark that really got to Scott. Peter comes back from New York to find Hannah chatting with the owner of a local restaurant. After chatting for a few moments, the restaurant owner clues Peter in that it was Hannah?s birthday, so he asks her for a dance. Unfortunately, the jukebox decided to go haywire and they missed the opportunity. While arriving back to Horizon, Hannah finds Isaac out on the docks skipping rocks after hours, which was a violation of the Horizon rules. At that moment, Isaac spoke for the first time, telling her that he couldn?t sleep. Hannah told him to go back to sleep and she wouldn?t report what he had done, and that they could talk all he wanted tomorrow. If Hannah had known what was to come become of this, she may not have let him go back to his dorm the way he did. As he reached back to his dorm, he went into the boy?s bathroom and decided to get high off some barbiturates that he had hid within his toothpaste. Ezra wakes up in the morning to find poor Isaac on the ground holding a plastic bag in his hands. After her morning jog, Hannah was in shock to find that an ambulance in front of Horizon getting the young boy to the hospital. Peter then had a little meeting with Auggie and Scott about anything strange about Isaac's behavior that lead to him what he did and if they were feeling okay with what happened. Peter then decided to give a short lecture to the Cliffhangers. Frank was upset by the response that the boys from the Cliffhangers responded to what had happened to Isaac. Frank then decided that he was going to teach those cliffhanger boys a thing or two by making them go with him on a nature hike to Hope Falls. At the bottom of the waterfall, Frank reveals the story of the death of his son many years before. Hannah feels bad about the situation and decides to resign from Horizon. Peter, who tries to find a way for Hannah to stay, find the cliffhanger girls chatting and smoking on the docks and as punishment makes them help him bake a cake for Hannah from scratch. After speaking to Isaac's mom about what had happened and finding out that Isaac had a history with overdosing with drugs and thankfully to the not so beautiful cake that Peter and the cliffhanger girls had made for her, Hannah made the decision to stay at Horizon. |
